Dr. David Stone

BSc, MD, FACOG
Obstetrician & Gynaecologist, Urogynecological Director, Minimally Invasive Gynaecologic Surgery Specialist

I am Dr. David Stone, a board certified Obstetrician and Gynaecologist from Detroit, Michigan, the Motor City and home to the Motown sound. My wife and I, together with our children have visited the Cayman Islands several times over the past 12 years. We have always enjoyed exploring Grand Cayman's natural beauty and diverse community. Having relatives that live throughout the Caribbean, the islands have always been a warm and wonderful part of my life. When the practice opportunity at TrinCay Medical Centre became available, the decision to move felt right and was well received by my family. Our children are preteens and are eager to meet new friends and host old friends from the states.

My career started 20+ years ago and has encompassed both private practice and academic medicine. This includes being the Director of Education for the medical students on the OB/GYN rotation. I have also been responsible for the training of hundreds of resident physicians and fellow colleagues, particularly in the areas of minimally invasive surgery, hereditary cancer syndrome risk assessment, counseling and treatment, and preterm birth prediction and prevention.

With special interest in advanced laparoscopy, including carbon dioxide laser assisted and robotic assisted laparoscopy, and operative hysteroscopy procedures, I have been able to treat women with abnormal uterine bleeding, chronic pelvic pain, uterine fibroids, endometriosis, vaginal vault prolapse, and infertility through tiny incisions, and sometimes, no incisions at all. These procedures are safer and allow for shorter recovery times then traditional surgery.

The philosophy of first listening and learning, then educating and treating has been deeply ingrained in my service to women. This has aided me in not only identifying those at higher risk of preterm birth and breast, ovarian, uterine, and colon cancers, but bladder leaking and stool leaking problems as well. In the latter conditions, I am able to perform special same day, outpatient procedures that may instantly treat these disorders.

My training at the renowned Hutzel Women's Hospital combined with the experience of over 5,000 deliveries allows me to successfully care for both normal and high risk pregnancies. During pregnancy, certain conditions can develop suddenly, like preterm labor, premature rupture of membranes, and preeclampsia. Offering a calm and caring management approach has been key to me achieving good outcomes. I look forward to bringing this approach to Grand Cayman.
